Monday, April 30 marks our last Give More Monday of the winter season.
Give More Monday is a promotion we ran this winter to 1) raise money for local nonprofits and 2) spread the word about how credit card fees burden small businesses.
Did you know that every time you swipe a credit card, the business that you’re supporting pays between 2.5% and 5.1%? For every $10 spent on a card, that’s as much as $0.51 out the door. It doesn’t seem like much, but it adds up!
Credit cards that offer additional rewards like cash back, points, or airline miles pass that cost not on to themselves or the consumer, but on to the businesses where the card is used. And frankly, that really sucks for small businesses.
Every Monday this winter, for every $10 increment spent in cash, our customers received a ticket to represent the amount of $0.51. That ticket was equal to the 5.1% you saved us by not using a credit card. It doesn’t seem like much, but it adds up!
All winter these tickets have been piling up to support our three featured nonprofits: The Hadley Fireman’s Association, The Edward Hopkins Educational Foundation, and Berkshire Hills Music Academy.
April 30 is the last day to support your community through Give More Mondays at Barstow’s! Join us for lunch for a great cause, put in a party platter order for Mother’s Day, or pick up some baked goods from your neighborhood dairy farm!
Can’t make it for April 30? Don’t forget that Valley Gives Day is May 1, 2018!
