We make many efforts to keep our energy use as low as possible. Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery was built with many features that help it to be energy efficient and environmentally friendly in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint.
We have radiant heating through our floors in Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery. Heating the floors rather than the air is a more energy efficient system. Radiant systems use less fossil fuels than other systems.
In each of the five Robot Milker rooms, the floors also have radiant heat. The floors in the robot rooms are heated by a water super heated with a heat recovery unit attached to the anaerobic digester’s engine. This heat would otherwise be wasted as a byproduct of the digester. Thanks to the heat recovery unit we are able to use the heat for not only the barn floors but also for the digester itself and three homes in their entirety.
