This year, America celebrates its 250th birthday. Wow!
In some ways, it is young… just take a walk around Rome, Cusco, or Giza. 250 years to them is nothin!
And in some ways, 250 sure is a long time ago; our nation has spanned many lifetimes. The oldest person we know recently celebrated his 105th birthday at Barstow’s and he was born in 1921 (Happy Birthday / Sto lat Mr. Stanley Fil!)
This year, Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery turned 18. Now, that’s a pretty American age: 18 is when you can vote and when you can serve our country!
And 2026 marks 220 years for Barstow’s Longview Farm! Our semiquincentennial is just 30 years away. The first generation began farming this land back in 1806, many lifetimes ago. Like our country, much has changed on the farm since then. We have evolved, improved, erred, learned – hey, we are all only human. But the fundamentals on the farm remain the same. Seven generations later we farm with those same governing values we started with: support our family, nurture our herd and crops, care for the land, feed our community.
We’ll be celebrating America’s 250th at our first Burger Night of the season on Tuesday, July 21, with the Red, White, and, Blueberry burger along with other Burger Night classics. Live music, great food, beautiful views – we hope you can make it!
Can’t get here for Burger Night? Barstow’s farm raised burgers are available in fresh, frozen packs of 4 exclusively at Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery. We also have a great variety of steaks for your summer grill. Yes, summer is in full swing and so are summer flavors: sweet corn, triple berry pie, blueberry muffins, local ice cream, and made-to-order sandwiches on the porch with fresh squeezed lemonade.
We are delighted to welcome Ukes4Ukraine, live music on the porch tomorrow and every other Saturday through at least the end of August (hopefully longer!). We are hosting the Hadley Public Library’s traveling Story Time at Barstow’s on Tuesday 7/21, 10:30am. And we have two more Burger Nights on the calendar, August 11 and September 22.
Barstow’s is currently open daily until 5pm! Happy Summer!
