Sustainability in Agriculture: Anaerobic Digestion
Free Walking Tour
Guided by: Michael Bland, Vanguard Renewables

Barstow’s Longview Farm uses an anaerobic digester to take food waste from local food producers and manure from our dairy cows and turn it into enough electricity to power 250 homes. Learn more about the digester on a free walking tour open to the public. Closed toed shoes are recommended. Tour begins at Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery.  Michael Bland is a lifelong neighbor and friend of Barstow’s Longview Farm.

June is Dairy Month! And all month we will be celebrating all things dairy – from cheese to yogurt, from ice cream to the good old fashioned glass of milk. But we will also celebrate by learning about dairy through the Dairy Month Lecture Series hosted by Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery and Barstow’s Longview Farm. Learn from experts and professionals about dairy nutrition, the dairy industry, sustainable farming, land use and open space, milk processing, and animal health. Join the conversation about the food in your fridge at your neighborhood farm! Tours begin and presentations are hosted at Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery (172 Hockanum Road).

Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery and Barstow’s Longview Farm is owned and operated by sixth and seventh generation Barstow’s. Nestled at the base of Skinner State Park and right alongside the Connecticut River, the dairy farm has been a part of the landscape since 1806.

Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery offers homemade baked goods and pies, lunch from local ingredients, farm fresh produce, farm raised beef, ice cream, and scenic views of protected farmland from the porch and dining room. This family friendly store is open daily year round. Come meet your neighborhood dairy farmer!
