Pasture Day 2020 Facebook LIVE Event
May 12 @ 9:25 am - 9:45 amFree
Today is Pasture Day!
And like the spring this year, it’s coming a little late. Pasture Day, an annual community event typically the first Saturday in May, has been rescheduled and reworked to meet best practices for safe social distancing in the time of COVID19.
Barstow’s Longview Farm will release several cows onto pasture in front of Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery on Tuesday, May 12 at 9:25am. We invite you to tune in for this virtual, Facebook Live event on our Facebook Page, here: https://www.facebook.com/Barstows-Dairy-Store-and-Bakery-253190316597/
Pasture Day is the time of year the fields are dry enough, the grass is green enough, and the fences are repaired from winter storms to release several heifers into the front pasture of Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery. Visitors typically enjoy frolicking cows, live music, farm tours, loads of ice cream, and maybe a few grass stains from playing/rolling on the hill. This year, because of coronavirus, we ask that you watch from home in order to prevent gathering.
Can’t watch live? A recording will be available on the Barstow Blog and Facebook page afterwards.
Pasture Day is just one of many great events and values that your neighborhood dairy farm brings the place you call home. Dairy farmers protect open spaces, steward our landscape, connect us with our roots, and provide essential, healthy food to our community.
Milk is one of the most requested, but least donated items at America’s food banks. Feeding America – the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization – and America’s dairy community, have delivered more than 33 million servings of fresh milk to children and families who need it most.
The Barstow family invites you to please join us in our continued efforts to get milk to nearby kids and families who need it most by donating to the Give a Gallon campaign. Thank you for your support!
Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery and Barstow’s Longview Farm is owned and operated by sixth and seventh generation Barstow’s. Nestled at the base of Skinner State Park and right alongside the Connecticut River, the dairy farm has been a part of the landscape since 1806.
Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery offers homemade baked goods and pies, lunch from local ingredients, farm fresh produce, farm raised beef, ice cream, and scenic views of protected farmland from the porch and dining room. This family friendly store is open daily year round. Come meet your neighborhood dairy farmer!
