National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day

Strawberry Rhubarb Pie is celebrated on June 9. But at Barstow’s, we celebrate this tart dessert for as long as we can!
We bring in strawberries as soon as our rhubarb plants are producing so that our customers (and our family) can enjoy Strawberry Rhubarb Pie right away! Our rhubarb has been growing in our garden for generations – and we have been gifted a number of other rhubarb plants from local friends and family.
The rhubarb plant has a long, thick, edible stem with delicious flavor, but a tart taste. Pretty much all rhubarb recipes call for sugar. The farmers remember picking rhubarb to dip into cups of sugar and eat raw. The leaves are not eaten, as they are poisonous!
Rhubarb Pie is also in the bakery case, and while many find it quite tart, Steve Barstow puts Rhubarb Pie as his #1 pick! Strawberry Rhubarb Pie remains a favorite for the Barstow’s and we hope you stop in to enjoy a slice or pick up a whole pie for your next family gathering!
