Wagon Ride Farm Tours
Sunday, August 12, 2012 we will be hosting free wagon ride farm tours, leaving from the store between 1pm and 3pm. Great for a family outing and to learn more about a local family dairy farm. We have 450 cows and steers in our herd and they'd like to meet you!
Raisin' the Roof
Longview Farm has just finished the new calf barn! The new calf facility measures 104' x 34' and holds 36 calves. It's been designed to maximize sun exposure and ventilation and also with doors to allow wagon tours to roll right through the barn.
Farm Digester coming to Barstow’s!
One cow produces enough electricity to power one average Massachusetts home and removes the equivalent greenhouse gases of two cars per cow from the atmosphere!
Barstow's Longview Farm, along with four other local dairy farms have partnered with Quasar Energy Group and other investors to form AGreen Energy, LLC. The current project will put five methane digesters on farms in Massachusetts. Construction for the digester at Barstow’s Longview Farm is currently happening!!
Anaerobic digesters convert manure and food scraps into environmentally friendly energy and keep small dairy farms, like Barstow's, economically viable.
For more information regarding the digester please visit www.agreenenergyllc.com

Burger Fest 2012
We broke out the grill and grilled our own, Barstow burgers to order on July 21, 2012. Burger Fest was a hit, we had quite a crowd to try our farm raised beef with our specialty toppings for one day only! We featured the burn-your-face-off burger, the heart-attack burger, the chili burger, and many more. We also hosted farm tours from 1-3, sprinkler fun for kids, and face painting.
One hungry guy walked away with a Barstow's pint glass and a $25 gift certificate to the store after winning the pie eating contest!
Eddy C. and his toe tapping polka music set the tone out on the porch.
And to the perfect end to a great burger, was some ice cream from Maple Valley Creamery out of their ice cream truck.
This event will definitely be back next year, so keep an eye out!
Barstow's DSB 4th Anniversary Celebration
On June 30, 2012, we celebrated our 4th year since our doors opened in 2008! We were selling ice cream from the Maple Valley Creamery truck, listening to the wonderful folk band Appalachian Still, even the Hadley Fire Department joined in the fun! We also had farm tours, the famous cow train from the Boisvert's, decorate your own cookie, and face painting. It was a great way to end Dairy Month and an awesome way to kick off Ice Cream Month July!
